Hello Amber, can you introduce yourself and your blog http://amusedblog.com ? 

My name is Amber Lucas, and I am the founder and editor of A Mused Blog. I began my blog in 2008, because I had recently landed two internships that I was thrilled to have: one in fashion PR, and the other in museum curating. I wanted to share everything that I was learning, along with what I was wearing to both my internships! I quickly switched over to what I was wearing regardless of the internships, and built a community from there. Today my blog features my personal style, styling collaborations, essays, beauty, and travel. I live in the beautiful Wine Country of Northern California, and I love to highlight the culture and area that I live in.

What are your editorial habits ? (I write my own content, someone writes for me, someone proofreads me, I take my own pictures for the blog, I post a lot of videos ect..)

I write all my own content. I do not employ a ghost writer. I work with local photographers for my outfit posts, and have built up an awesome network of local creatives in my area: artists, designers, photographers, and shop owners. However one thing that I do insist on is editing my own photo content. I like to maintain that creative control. My photographers are free to edit their copies as they wish, as long as there are no changes made to my body (such as slimming of the body, face, etc).

What do you like the most about your blog ?

What I love most about my blog are the many opportunities that it has opened up for me. Since 2011 I have been steadily employed exclusively because of the blog. Last year in 2015, I attended both seasons of New York Fashion Week; I got into the Mercedes Benz tents because I stayed in contact with people I had met from the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas. I have met photographers, designers, models, and buyers of well-known brands all because of A Mused, and I am blessed to call many of them dear friends. My blog has also taught me how to ‘work a room’ so to speak, to come out of my shell at networking events, and how to carry a conversation in a way that make people want to stay in touch. As a blogger I also have readers who ask me for advice on a variety of topics: readers have sent me emails asking for advice on their hair, their personal lives, and travel tips. Just last month I FaceTimed with a mother to give her advice on how to take care of her daughter naturally curly hair. I think what I love the most is that my blog connects me with other people I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

How do you use social networks ? Which one do you prefer ?

I use social networks to be social, and to interact with my readers and followers. There is a danger to using social media as a “sounding board”; To be successful you must interact. One of my favorites is Instagram. I am a visual person, so the gallery feed really appeals to me. Snapchat and Facebook are also favorites.

What are the meaningful moments of the development of the blog ?

One of the first meaningful moments I had with A Mused Blog was when All Saints asked for a years worth of sidebar advertising. I didn’t even know what to charge! I remember scrambling and reaching out to other bloggers for advice. That was the first time my blog paid for groceries. However I think one of the most meaningful moments I had was on the last day of my first fashion week. I was seated 3rd row at a very well known designer’s show and I glanced down and saw that the event was produced by People’s Revolution; a company I had wanted to work for right as I was starting to get into fashion. Everything in fashion always comes full circle, and in that moment I realized that the law doesn’t apply to just clothing trends. My most recent meaningful moment has been collaborating with Banana Republic for their new #ItsBanana spring campaign.

Who’s your target?

My target is the working female, age range 24-36. However I have found that it is men who mostly read my essays. So I have my fashion and beauty posts for my female readers, and the introspective works for my male readers.

Which are the most popular categories of your blog ?

My outfits are the most popular. However the most popular post of all time is actually an essay, titled “It’s Just a Moment“. It was written during a very challenging time in my life, and I was trying to remind myself that it wouldn’t last forever. My readers really connect with my personal essays, so I try to do them every two months or so.

Where do you find inspiration ?

I find inspiration from my fellow bloggers, my artist and designer friends, fashion editorials, and current trends.
